Pretoria, 1st April 2019;
On Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th of April, the battle between the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars continues where it ended at Zwartkops Raceway for round two of the championship. The 20 lap race weekend will reveal if the four front runners will continue to reign supreme, or if other V8 stars will join the occasion.
A single point separates championship leader Terry Wilford (Ford Falcon), from reigning champion Mackie Adlem (Jaguar XKR) at 42 points. Franco Di Matteo (Jaguar XKR), who took the first pole position of the season, and with it the opening race win, is third with 40 points.
Prospected front runners Izak Spies (Ford Mustang) and Roelf du Plessis (Chevrolet Corvette) didn’t compete in the second race because of other – international – race commitments, and are expected to make up for lost ground in the upcoming race.
The biggest revelation thus far is Julian Familiaris (Chevrolet Corvette), who stands fifth in the championship. Julian, who acquired the Corvette V8 from Larry Wilford just before the first race, has shown great potential to be a future winner in the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars series.
It’s the third official time the field of V8’s are competing at Zwartkops Raceway, and the top 4 in the championship have taken all the spoils in those events. Terry Wilford claimed three of the six heat wins but is still without a pole position. Mackie Adlem scored the most points over the three weekends with only 1 race win.
On Friday the V8’s will have three official practice sessions with a total track time of one hour, spread evenly throughout the day. Saturday mornings qualifying starts at 08:30 for 15 minutes, which will determine the start grid of the opening race at 11:40. The final race of the day, in reverse grid, will commence at 16:25. Each race is 10 laps respectively.
