On Friday (8th March) and Saturday (9th March) the 2019 Mobil 1 V8 Supercar series kicks off the opening round of the season at the 2,4 kilometre track that is Zwartkops Raceway.
The long anticipated first race of the Mobil 1 branded series will see an impressive 15 V8’s on the start grid. “Having a title sponsor this year makes a huge difference for our series, and the intentions and early signs are directed towards the growth of the series and ever increasing popularity,” according to lead competitor, Terry Wilford.
The six round championship will take the competitors to 4 different tracks for 12 races.
The Mobil 1 V8 Supercars form part of the ever popular Extreme Festival, which offers a drivers racing spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts. For the past five years, the Extreme Festival has been the most successful series in South Africa, making it the perfect match for Mobil 1 to be present with the V8’s.
The Mobil 1 V8 Supercar field will see a line up of young vs. senior racers, mixed with Ford’s, Chevy’s and Jaguars, on the Pretoria track. Bear in mind, based on the quality of entries, a possible lap record is on the cards. A new lap record means breaking through the 1 minute barrier around Zwartkops Raceway.
On Friday, the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars will have three practice sessions. On Saturday morning the drivers will start with a qualifying session, to determine the start grid for the opening race at 13:25. The second race, with a reverse grid, will commence at 16:35. Both races will be a duration of 10 laps.
